Forney is located in a fast growth area of Northwest Kaufman County. The City realized that the population increase affected public safety needs of their community. They hired Brinkley Sargent Architects to perform a needs assessment study for ten and twenty years to an ultimate build out population of 43,000. Site feasibility and selection was also a part of the study process. In the fall of 2007, the City successfully passed a bond package for the development of a new justice center to be built adjacent to a large municipal park currently under development. This facility will anchor the park at the main access point. The facility will house 26,000 SF for police, 10,000 SF for court services, and 4,000 SF for support buildings. The design elements include a single lobby vestibule area which will lead visitors to either the police or court area with visible site lines either direction for security purposes. Areas necessary for public access are located on the first floor for both staff and visitors convenience. The site and building have been master planned for a future community/training room addition between the police and court wings.
