The loom, a tool that transforms individual threads into cohesive fabric, serves as a powerful metaphor for connection. Drawing inspiration from the ancient craft of weaving—one of humanity's earliest technologies—FLIP studio conceived "The Loom Pavilion" for fashion brand SANI's pop-up store. This installation explores how weaving intertwines people with nature and diverse materials, creating an immersive space that embodies the brand's philosophy of "Origin and Returning to Nature."
The pavilion, first built in Guangzhou, features a 4m-high structure of green stained wood frames arranged in a rhythmic, sequenced pattern. Integrated with functional zones like fitting rooms and display areas, yellow nylon fabric—commonly used in outdoor wear—drapes from the beams. This evokes both the traditional cloth-drying scenes of the Lingnan region and the feel of a nomadic market canopy.
Constructed from a reusable steel-wood hybrid system with bolted connections, the installation is designed for multiple disassembly and reassembly, enabling a touring exhibition across cities including Guangzhou, Xi'an, and Haikou.
Through its structural rhythm and poetic color interplay, the Weaving Pavilion carries the brand’s signature comfort and relaxed aesthetic to each new city. As sunlight filters through the yellow fabric and breezes gently sway the canopy, it transforms retail into a serene, captivating experience.
