In the cities, marts often appear in the streets and alleys. One kind is a fixed place that sell goods and opens on a regular basis. We call it a “Ji集” in Chinese. And the other is a mobile and irregular one, more like a “street stall” that can travel from one place to the other, known as a “Fang坊” in Chinese. These marts appear in various styles, such as food stalls, book stalls, etc., presenting a diversity of forms. In the 83-square-meter space of ZUCZUG Mart store in Taikoo Li, Chengdu, FLIP Studio restored the organic spatial patterns of the market streets and abstracted the various forms of street stalls into props and furniture for clothing display, to interpret ZUCZUG’s “mart” themed fashion boutique store.
