One of the most challenging projects we have designed has been the remodeling of this house built in 1940, which has undergone several renovations over the years. The clients had the desire to further enhance it.The exterior intervention was clear, as the spaces were not well utilized, and a small pool had to be added. However, the inside was in perfect condition... The key points were to improve the entry of light, uncover the personality of the existing construction, and enhance the interior flow of the spaces.
The house is located on plot number 9 of Ermita Square, within a consolidated block in the urban center of Godella, forming part of the ensemble of the square where the Ermita de Godella stands out. The urban ensemble of the surroundings is of great interest due to its garden city structure and the large number of mid-20th-century villas, some of which are classified and protected.
Instead of fragmentation, a spatial organization as open as possible is proposed, with large communication and usable spaces, while preserving the original structure of the house. The roof's coffered ceiling is removed to increase the visual volume of the house and allow for the unrestricted flow of light entering through the south facade, with the intention of illuminating as much space as possible. With the same intention, a new sculptural staircase is proposed to provide easy access from the main floor to the lower level, which directly leads to the back of the plot where a porch area with a pool and landscaping is planned.
