Wearing New “ME” An Immersive Experience with the ELLE Brand
This project is located at Tokyo International Airport (commonly known as Haneda Airport), a hub for travelers. As ELLE’s first location in Japan, this project incorporates elements designed to heal both body and mind, while also unraveling the philosophy of “ELLE”—a French lifestyle brand with over 80 years of history—and translating it into the interior design. The space embodies ELLE’s worldview and offers a personal experiential value, allowing guests to “change out of their old selves” and “step into the person they aspire to be.”
ELLE DNA: A Reinterpretation of Freedom and Curiosity
Founded in France in 1945 by Hélène Lazareff, ELLE is a lifestyle media brand that takes fashion as its core while covering a wide range of topics, from culture and beauty to the very fabric of society. We have infused interior design with the free, bold, and unique spirit that she has always cherished.
The exhilaration felt at the tips of your fingers as you flip through the pages—that sensation of imagination running wild, asking, “Who will I become next?”—is the aim of this space. The project goes beyond simply offering luxury; it is an “experience” in itself, reconstructing ELLE’s DNA by weaving it into spatial elements such as materials, colors, light, and texture.
A Wardrobe Where You Choose Yourself
The spatial concept is “Wearing New ‘ME’—Embracing a New Self.”
Inspired by the fashion magazine “ELLE,” we adopted the motif of a “wardrobe.” The waiting area, the first space guests encounter after passing through the entrance, is a place to step away from daily life and shift one’s mindset toward the experience about to begin. Details such as doors and drawers on the walls, along with brass knobs, evoke the atmosphere of a wardrobe, creating a space where guests can quietly reflect on themselves. Throughout the space, the comfort of returning to a Parisian apartment has been blended with the exhilaration of opening a closet.
In the treatment area, multiple distinct worlds—each with its own narrative—unfold, inspired by the pages of ELLE. From rooms enveloped in quiet, soft light to those featuring striking, pop-inspired colors with a sense of rhythm, choosing a room to “change into” based on your mood that day, symbolizes the freedom of choice and the beauty of independent women that ELLE has long championed.
The Space and Aesthetic Sense Woven by Details
Meticulous attention to detail lies at the core of the design. From the lines of the furnishings, which evoke the supple curves of a woman, to the delicate color transitions that seem to capture the atmosphere of Paris, and even the texture of the stitching on the rugs and cushions, every sensory and tactile element has been carefully crafted. Furthermore, by intentionally incorporating accents that disrupt symmetry, we have created a space that exudes warmth even amidst its high level of refinement. This is not a pursuit of perfection, but rather a deliberate use of negative space to bring out each person’s inherent beauty.
As an extension of this design philosophy, the Spa Suite blends the elegance of ELLE with elements of Japanese aesthetics—such as black stone floors and wooden lattice walls—to foster a dialogue of universal beauty that transcends borders.

When you step in front of the mirror after your experience at ELLE SPA, you will have not only soothed your fatigue but also wrapped your heart in the “garments” of a new self.
