BNIM was selected to design an addition and renovation for the Des Moines Community Playhouse, a beloved pillar in the cultural community of Des Moines since 1919. The renovated facility provides a new education wing with classrooms designed to accommodate expected education program growth, a renovated 400-seat Mainstage theatre, additional costume and properties storage, new dressing rooms, administrative offices, green rooms that multi-task as classrooms, updated mechanics and additional parking. Several tenets shaped the design, including the client's commitment to sustainability and building performance, enriched visitor experience, user comfort, and longevity of the Playhouse.
