Rosser International designed a new Government Center for Dawson County, Georgia. The project is located near the center of the county seat of Dawsonville and will replace the existing facility which was built in the 1960’s. The historic Courthouse, built in 1860 and the oldest in continuous use in Georgia, is a short block away from the new site. The new Government Center will take a cue from its historic context, yet support the needs of a modern, multi-use community center –both now and into the
future.
The new facility is connected to the adjacent County Jail to facilitate the movement of prisoners to court. Additionally, the facility accomodates all judicial functions including the following courts: Superior, Magistrate, Probate, and Juvenile. The offices
of the Clerk of Court, the District Attorney and the Public Defender are also included in the building.
County services of the Board of Commissioners, the County Administrator, the County Attorney, the Tax Assessor, the Tax Commissioner, and the Community Development departments are located in the new Courthouse. A new County Commission assembly space for public meetings is also provided.
The design accommodates the need for public services in a central location, while maintaining the security and privacy of court functions.
