When it comes to the city of Wuhan, there is both the magnificent water of the great rivers and lakes, and the dreamy and romantic sea of cherry blossoms. Wuhan and cherry blossoms have a strong connection that is steeped in local history and culture. This project is located in Wuhan’s famous commercial street - Hanjie Street, the pedestrian street is right on riverbank, where sophistication is hidden in the downtown. We wanted to use the design language of space to portray the joyful scenes of people hosting feasts, inviting friends and family to celebrate together, and sharing the good things in life, so we came up with the new theme ‘Praise’, which means to celebrate and to sing, and incorporated the elements of pink cherry blossoms and feast to design this experience shop in Wuhan.
We decorated the whole building facade with pink and white cherry blossoms, and the soft light at night hit the old brick wall in vintage style, as if the cherry blossoms had lushly overflowed into the space, so that people passing by here would instantly get attracted and want to enter the shop to feel the pink freshness of the cherry blossom sea.
We played with the cherry blossom elements throughout the space. The shop has two floors, and the ceiling of each floor has a distinctive style. On the first floor, there are several lampshades in the form of enlarged cherry blossoms petals on the ceiling, while the shape of the ceiling on the second floor is different from that on the first floor. There are many thin columns extending downward, whose cross-section is mini cherry blossoms. This actually imitates the shape of lipstick. Those ‘lipsticks’ have different pink color, as if girls are constantly trying on lipstick colors before dressing up for a celebration party.
The area of the space parallel to people’s line of sight is both the main location for jewelry display and the part where people would most likely notice. In order to create a beautiful and joyful ambiance, we designed the jewelry display tall floor cabinet and center island ones in the shape of noble perfume bottles, and
customized the wall lamps with special cherry blossom-shape wicks. We also designed a unique hand-drawing pattern for the sofa, chairs and curtains and printed them on cloth, with layers of petals to express the visual experience, giving visitors who enter this jewelry shop the feeling of being surrounded by cherry blossoms.
The floor was made of pink and white terrazzo tiles with the form of cherry blossom pistil, and the same shape appears on the glass door handle at the entrance to the shop, which echoes the ceiling and adds a beautiful and romantic atmosphere to the whole space.
Pink is the main color of many species of cherry blossoms. We integrated various shades of pink into the space. The rich visual experience is our spatial language to praise the charm of cherry blossoms in full blooming, hoping that visitors can select their favourite jewelry in the dreamy cherry blossom space.
