Being famous as the ancient capital of six dynasties in China, Nanjing has gone through years and now it has a classical charm. Many documented architectures in Nanjing are unable to be found, but their figures always appear in Chinese traditional poetries. We integrated ‘Old Town of Nanjing’ on the base of ‘Gift’ theme to present this experience shop.
Nanjing’s ancient architectures have unique characteristics - the four corners of the pavilion's eaves are rising upwards, and the glazed roof tiles are lined up in unison. We applied this sky-high Chinese-style ridge to the ceiling. The individual ‘roof tiles’ are staggered together and drop lightly down from the top of the ceiling. It is like traveling back to the old town of the city when you step into this space. Looking at the ceiling from different angles, you can find that the hollow and translucent design adds a perspective effect, which makes the visual level richer, just like the grandeur and dignity that this ancient capital already possesses.
We applied modern drawing techniques to reproduce the bird’s eye view map of the old town of Nanjing, made it into a hollow style, and presented in a separate whole wall body. The map on the floor is presented by gold with brown marble. The building blocks that form the bird's eye view map also mimic the mottled posture of the bricks of City Wall of Nanjing. We wanted to express the flavor of Nanjing's old city in all aspects as much as possible within the limited space.
The ‘gift box’ is a classic image in the ‘Gift’ theme series and it is integrated into the shape of the ceiling. It also appears on another wall in different shades of gold. Besides, two or three large ‘gift boxes’ are stacked to form the store’s cashier and jewelry display case.
Nanjing is the birthplace of gold leaf in China, so we also used a lot of gold leaf elements in the overall space, such as the mall wall body and the gift box pattern. The noble and luxurious style of gold leaf comes with its own style, so that the shape and color of the space is also in line with the magnificence of Nanjing’s old town. We hope that people who walk into this experience shop can be reminded of the ancient image of Nanjing, and enjoy picking their favorite jewelry in the golden sea of gift boxes.
