This pavilion is geometric translation of the main theme for Student and Young Architect Platform in UIA 2017 Seoul World Architects Congress, “Architecture Conflux”. Confluence and divergence of curves on funnel-shaped geometries provides spatial and structural quality with changing density. It is conceived as a light-weight structure assembled by one single material, bent plywood. With 6.5mm thickness, 340-different-shaped flat parts were cut by CNC router. The junction of computer generated design and materiality is precisely resolved through elaborate studies in both digital and real field. The Conflux Pavilion performs as a stage when event happens and gathering space in other times. This unique installation will be perceived as a focal point to visitors in vast convention hall.
This project is designed with Young Architects Forum Korea.
