The project for the new headquarters of the Official Association of Administrative Managers of Valencia (COGA), located on the central Colón street, started from a complex architectural reality: a large space with very low ceilings and a marked lack of natural light, limited to two small rear courtyards.
Added to this spatial difficulty was a demanding functional program, which had to accommodate the daily work of the College's team with occasional meetings of members and clients, as well as training activities and institutional events in an auditorium.
The design strategy developed by Destudio is based on clearly separating the different uses and articulating them around a large central lobby, conceived as the true heart of the space. From this point, all areas are easily accessible: the office area is located on the main façade, the auditorium is moved to the rear next to the courtyards, and the service areas (kitchen, restrooms, and meeting rooms) are organized on the sides.
The lobby is designed as a flexible, dynamic, and representative space, inspired by the atmosphere of hotel lobbies. In it, a series of large colored islands accommodate different uses: seating areas with sofas and armchairs, meeting tables, or more informal spaces with high tables. These islands can function independently or be connected to each other thanks to a curtain system that allows visual and acoustic privacy to be adjusted according to the needs of the moment.
While the rest of the office is decorated in a palette of neutral tones, the islands stand out for their monochrome finish, adding identity, rhythm, and character to the whole.
Between the lobby and the work area is the reception desk, designed with rounded shapes that reinforce its role as a transitional element between the two areas. At the back of the space is a foyer leading to the auditorium, which acts as a link between the two courtyards and enhances the perception of depth and brightness in the building. The auditorium, which can be separated from the rest of the space by a large automatic acoustic curtain, is designed as a single unit in the same color tone, integrating acoustic solutions in wood, PET, and other materials.
