UNStudio’s Chungnam Art Center was designed to expand the Chungnam Cultural Cluster, a hub dedicated to the arts in South Korea’s Chungcheongnam-do province. More than a concert hall, the approximately 6700-square-meter facility is envisioned as a multifunctional cultural space, perfectly capable of hosting musical performances, exhibitions, educational programs, and community events.
The building’s minimalistic structure and stretch metal mesh facade are deceiving on purpose, unfolding in complexity as visitors come closer and closer to it, exploring its interconnected spaces and experiencing its clever acoustic solutions.
Though the project did not move forward to realization, it’s worth looking back at how it innovated on classic design principles and wowed the jury nonetheless with the help of our architectural visualization package.
