The Christner Building seeks to transform the
streetscape by focusing on design character, community, and the pedestrian
experience. The building’s architecture
takes cues from nature, using one of its most stable geometric forms, two
mirrored isosceles triangles. This
simple geometry creates an elegant background for living and provides
protection from the area’s hurricane-force winds. Natural forms are further
emphasized as a wave-shaped canopy enhances the composition of the first four
floors. The canopy also separates public from private spaces and serves as a
transition from the architecture’s horizontal massing and vertical
element.
The 32-story building features 56 units, each at
2,000 square feet. Through offering a
mix of residential, retail, commercial, and affordable housing, the development
will generate a lively street scene in both day and evening hours. The Christner
Building offers well-equipped units in
the vibrant center of Sarasota, in walking
distance to restaurants, bars, theatres, opera, art galleries, shopping, parks,
music, public transportation and Sarasota
Bay.
