Chandelier Room is a warm and comfortable lounge that is designed to become the anchor and source of energy for the W Hoboken hotel, and also to become a timeless great room that is woven into the local fabric of Hoboken.
The space is blessed with classic proportions, river views, and an expansive terrace – three key ingredients for an archetypal Great Room. In the design treatment, these views have been artfully concealed and revealed to make them a part of the architecture: sometimes framed as art on a wall, sometimes woven in - the Manhattan skyline across the river becomes part of the arrangement bottles in the bar, or sometimes to read as captured light and framed into a candle box on the terrace.
The colors and textures of the space are rich and warm – copper tiles, glazed cognac leathers, chocolate velvets, but the heady tortoise tones are cut through with absinthe-colored accents that give it distinct edge and energy. The seats are deep and plush. The bar is honed marble that will take on a satin patina as it ages.
Taking center stage of the room is a fabulous “chandelier to end all chandeliers” – a glossy glamorous fixture, oversized and scaled to fantastic proportions. Like something from a fantasy doll house, this astonishing piece cascades down from the ceiling to become a playful and inhabitable sculpture that captures the amazing height of the room. It engages, it masks, it flirts; guests can actually sit in the crystal “drop” chairs that appear to hang from its merlot-colored boughs. At once familiar and new, it takes its place as the defining element of the space – grand in proportion, warm and whimsical, but unquestionably sexy.
ICRAVE recruited specialty fabricator Skyline Design out of Chicago to produce the chandelier. The CNC custom fabricated piece is clad in high gloss specialty paint from Belgian specialty paint company Emergy & Cie.
