In 1948 the Architect Nathaniel Saltonstall, one of the founders of
Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, established The Colony Club of
Wellfleet as a private club for art collectors. In 1952 he built several homes
in the International Style for members on nearby Chequesett Neck. In 2008 the
new owners of one of these, commissioned Hammer Architects to update and expand
their house.
The
new plan relocates the kitchen from the original maid’s wing, permitting family
activities to be centered in the house. Utilizing the structural vocabulary of
the original house, the new addition provides a new dining room, outdoor dining
terrace, a master bedroom suite and indoor lap pool with an adjacent patio.
