Campus Lozen Park is located in the developing Lozen Park district on the outskirts of Sofia, an area with high environmental quality and strong potential for a sustainable community. Developed in partnership with International School Uwekind and as part of the Residential Park Lozen masterplan, the campus serves as the educational and social center of the neighborhood, combining a school, a kindergarten, and administrative facilities within a unified architectural complex.
The architectural concept is based on the idea of an open learning environment where education, social interaction, and community life intersect. Instead of forming a single compact mass, the complex is organized as a composition of low-rise volumes around open courtyards and landscaped outdoor spaces. This arrangement responds to the scale of the surrounding residential context while creating a calm, accessible environment for students of different ages.
A key challenge was integrating several educational programs within a single structure while addressing the spatial and safety requirements of different age groups. The campus combines a kindergarten with primary, middle, and high school levels. This complexity is resolved through clear functional zoning and carefully organized circulation. Independent yet interconnected zones allow each educational stage to operate separately while sharing common facilities such as sports halls, cultural spaces, and communal learning areas.
The three-story building accommodates a broad range of educational and social functions that support diverse forms of learning and interaction. These include a library and information center with space for applied arts, classrooms for music, science, and technology, conference rooms, a theater workshop, large and small sports halls, a cafeteria with its own kitchen, and a multifunctional performance hall. Shared areas extend the educational environment beyond the classroom, encouraging collaboration, creativity, and informal interaction.
Spatial organization prioritizes clarity and accessibility. Typical school floors include classrooms supported by sanitary facilities, storage areas, and service rooms connected through naturally lit corridors. Vertical circulation cores provide direct connections between levels and access to the courtyard. In the kindergarten zone, each group unit includes its own classroom, sleeping room, wardrobe area, and sanitary facilities, all with direct access to outdoor playgrounds.
Interior spaces such as foyers, corridors, and staircases are designed as bright and open environments with visual connections to the surrounding landscape. The façades combine natural materials and warm tones that articulate different programmatic zones while reinforcing the building’s human scale.
The courtyard forms a central element of the architectural concept. Designed as a multifunctional outdoor environment, it includes pedestrian paths, playgrounds, a sports field, and areas for informal gatherings. Trees, shrubs, and planted zones contribute to the identity of the campus while improving the microclimate, reducing dust, and creating a natural environmental buffer.
The campus has a gross floor area of 7,834 sqm on a 6,200 sqm site in the area of Sofia’s Lozen village. The school accommodates 26 classes with approximately 520 students, while the kindergarten includes two groups with a capacity of 40 children. Staff facilities include 24 parking spaces and 120 bicycle parking spaces, encouraging sustainable mobility.
