A1 Motor Park is a new motorsport complex in Samokov, Bulgaria, designed as a professional environment for racing, training, testing, and large-scale sporting events. Combining a high-performance racing circuit with architecture, technical infrastructure, and spectator facilities, the project introduces a new typology and scale of motorsport venue to the country.
Developed through an international collaboration between specialists in motorsport, architecture, and engineering, the project brings together the expertise of Driven, responsible for the circuit design, and IPA - Architecture and more, responsible for the architectural design. The complex was completed in approximately eight months, an exceptionally compressed timeframe for infrastructure of this scale and technical complexity.
At the center of the project is a 4-kilometer racing circuit with 15 corners and a straight of more than 900 meters, allowing speeds above 280 km/h. Its geometry supports 21 different configurations, enabling the track to accommodate multiple formats, from professional competitions and vehicle testing to driver training and educational programs. Fast straights, technical corners, and changes in elevation create a varied driving environment while allowing the circuit to adapt to different levels of experience and types of use.
The circuit was developed in accordance with international requirements for automobile and motorcycle racing and has been inspected by representatives of the FIA and FIM. According to the expert assessment, the track also meets the technical requirements for Formula 1 vehicle testing. Specialized racing asphalt, developed with the involvement of Italian experts, forms part of a broader engineering strategy that includes high-capacity drainage, safety zones, protective barriers, and technical systems designed for intensive use.
Beyond the circuit itself, the architectural program organizes the complex as a complete operational environment for competitors, teams, organizers, and visitors. The facility accommodates up to 30,000 spectators and incorporates a pit lane, garages, team service areas, race control facilities, a medical center, technical control systems, VIP areas, hospitality spaces, a restaurant, café, retail, and supporting infrastructure.
The architecture is shaped by the specific logistics of motorsport, where visibility, access, safety, movement, and rapid communication between different functional zones are critical. Public, operational, and technical areas are clearly organized while remaining closely connected to the circuit. The result is an integrated complex in which buildings and infrastructure work as part of a single system rather than as isolated elements around the track.
A1 Motor Park was conceived not only as a venue for major events but also as long-term infrastructure for the development of motorsport in Bulgaria. It provides professional conditions for local drivers, riders, and teams to train, test, and compete without relying exclusively on facilities abroad, while creating opportunities for educational programs and emerging talent.
Located approximately 12 kilometers from Borovets and within reach of Sofia and Blagoevgrad, the complex also benefits from its proximity to one of Bulgaria’s established mountain tourism destinations. This position creates the potential for motorsport events to connect with tourism, hospitality, and other regional activities throughout the year.
