The city of Mainz provides numerous rental bikes with its well-structured network of bike stations. For private bikes, however, there has been a lack of infrastructure such as suitable parking spaces. Far too often, one encounters orphaned bicycles that fall victim to weather and vandalism.
The bicycle sheds available on the market are too prone to vandalism due to their lack of architectural quality and constructive design and are therefore not suitable for public spaces.
Against this background, SYRA_SCHOYERER ARCHITEKTEN developed a first prototype of a bicycle pavilion for the city of Mainz. True to the office philosophy of re-describing the everyday, the design for the bicycle pavilion also relied exclusively on industrially prefabricated mass products. There are no special components, only the flat steel façade bars were each twisted once by 90 degrees.
Thus, a robust pavilion was designed that offers a visually appealing solution and provides shelter for up to twelve bicycles.
The entire pavilion is built entirely in the factory and transported to its destination in one piece - eliminating the need for a noisy construction site.
