Set in an eclectic plaza, this double-height salon feeds off the see-and-be-seen culture of a college town’s pedestrian core with a light-handed merger of public and private, branding and experience, and structure and affect. Its glassy walls’ dramatic height sets the stage for clients and passers-by to bask in the salon’s glamorous club vibe. The airy, 1,700-sf salon melds industrial and modern aesthetics in its minimalist glass detailing, hot-rolled sheet steel components, and mix of furniture selections. Warm metal tones and "Buzz orange" activate cool concrete and glass.
A perforated, counterweighted lift-gate separates the building's lobby and the salon's reception area. The gate’s vertical movement spans both levels of the business, its integrated signage linking retail and styling while redrawing the boundaries of the plaza outside.
At night, gallery lighting casts a lantern-like glow across the brick paving, tempting potential clients and coiffure voyeurs alike.
