Located on the site of the former Boucicaut Hospital in Paris’s 15th arrondissement, the project is composed of two symmetrical buildings along Rue de la Convention, positioned respectively at the corners of Rue de Lourmel (Building A) and Rue de Lacordaire (Building B).
As a pilot project for the City of Paris, the program brings together a wide range of uses, including workshops, retail spaces, a nursing home for elderly residents (Building B), a day psychiatric center (Building B), and reception centers for the homeless and for women victims of violence (Building A), located on the ground and lower floors (ground floor, first and second floors). The upper three levels of each building (levels 4, 5, and 6) are dedicated to social housing.
The project’s generous ambition—promoting values of coexistence, coherence, and integration—has inspired the architects to design two contemporary buildings that are fully integrated into both the landscape and the urban fabric.
Alternating zinc and brick façades, the buildings respond to the preserved hospital structures and the surrounding rooftops. Through the rhythm of openings, the quality of materials, detailing, and circulation spaces, as well as the inclusion of rooftop gardens and balconies, Atelier Brenac & Gonzalez has ensured that the project fully embodies its underlying ambitions.
