**2.3.4 About the Owners**
For a couple who had been busy raising children in Seoul, living in harmony with nature in Jeju had been a long-standing dream. As the time for their children to become independent drew near, the couple decided to build a home in Jeju and took the first step toward realizing their dream.
**5.6 About the Site**
The site is located in a residential area within the English Village town in the southeastern part of Jeju. The rear of the site is surrounded by the dense forest and rocks of the Gozjawal Provincial Park, and on the side, there is a small pond and a stream flowing through a park. The house was designed to resemble this natural landscape while fulfilling the owners' wish for a space where daily life and nature would meet in various ways.
**7.8 Layout Concept and Construction Focus**
****
The exterior, surrounded by rough textures of a gable roof of varying heights and bluish-gray bricks, evokes the image of solid rocks. In contrast, the front courtyard, middle courtyard, and small garden are open spaces that mediate between the house and nature, placed strategically across the site. The courtyards enclosed by the exterior walls effectively block the view from the street and allow for free interaction between the inside and outside. The entire building is planned with a lightweight wooden frame, and to maximize the courtyard space, part of the first floor is designed with a concrete piloti structure to create a parking area.
**9. Interior Design**
****
The kitchen and dining area, where the family spends the most time, form the heart of the home. The high ceiling in the dining space and the open staircase foster communication among family members, creating a lively atmosphere inside the house. Moreover, the folding doors that open to the middle courtyard and the traditional wooden floor (totemaru) blur the physical boundaries between indoors and outdoors, enabling active interaction with nature.
The hallway, which connects the separated living room and dining area, extends into the small garden's totemaru. The sky, glimpsed through the deeply extended eaves, constantly changes, creating an ever-evolving landscape that makes moving through the house an enjoyable experience.
****
The design of the interior is centered around allowing the outdoor views to take center stage, with a simple white background plan.
- **Entrance**: The window directly facing the entrance extends the view outward, creating a bright and refreshing first impression.
- **Staircase Window**: The open window visible while going up and down the stairs captures the distant view of the Sanbangsan mountain like a painting.
- **Master Bedroom Window**: The different heights of the gable roof offer unexpected, unfamiliar views from unique angles.
- **Windows Around the House (Hallway, Children's Room Windows)**: The view of the Gozjawal forest and neighboring houses, combined with the distinctive weather and wind of Jeju, creates a unique landscape.
**10. Exterior Works**
****
****
One of the main desires of the owners was to have a terrace in the master bedroom where they could wake up and view the Sanbangsan mountain. A half-brick wall was applied to the facade to block the view from the surrounding park while also allowing the terrace to open up to the outside.

The terrace opening to the first-floor middle courtyard is enclosed by walls that follow the mountain's ridgeline, blocking views from the outside and enabling various outdoor activities for the family.
**11. Additional Remarks**
**A House with Enjoyable Walking Paths**
This house is a place where walking is a pleasure. The landscapes visible through the windows in various parts of the house enrich daily life. The various forms of interaction between inside and outside also expand the physical boundaries of the home. The owner's long-held wish for a life in full harmony with nature and a leisurely pace of living, which began with the creation of this home, is slowly being realized.
