Bory Hospital, opened in 2023 in Bratislava, is the most modern hospital in Central Europe. Designed for Penta Hospitals International by Dutch Health Architects (a joint venture of EGM architects and Gortemaker Algra Feenstra), the 53,000 m², 400-bed facility redefines healthcare in Slovakia. With 14 state-of-the-art operating theatres and a strong focus on healing environments, it is expected to replace up to 50% of the city’s available hospital beds.
Next Generation Hospital – efficient, sustainable and patient-first
Built in the emerging Bory district, the hospital embodies the future of healthcare: patient-oriented, flexible, and sustainable. Its bold, futuristic architecture houses streamlined workflows, a highly efficient day treatment centre, and reimagined outpatient zones—designed through an expert-driven process supporting local healthcare capacity with advanced technologies.
Healing environment with daylight and green spaces
Natural light floods the interior through high glass façades offering wide views of the landscape. Large courtyard gardens and moss-sedum rooftops bring nature indoors, forming lush, restorative oases. These green spaces enhance the wellbeing of patients, staff, and visitors—turning the hospital into a place of recovery and calm.
Central boulevard for orientation and flow
A generous forecourt leads to the main entrance, which seamlessly transitions into the central indoor boulevard—the hospital’s main artery. This bright, spacious route offers views into the gardens and provides intuitive wayfinding to outpatient clinics and inpatient lifts, reducing stress and improving patient experience.
Attractive workplace for top medical talent
Bory Hospital offers not only world-class care but also a future-proof working environment. As the first hospital of its kind in Bratislava, it enhances Slovakia’s healthcare infrastructure and job market, helping retain top medical professionals by offering European-standard care close to home.
Designed by Dutch Health Architects
Following a competitive selection, Dutch Health Architects was chosen for its expertise in combining process efficiency with high-quality, human-centred design. The Bory Hospital follows the successful example of the Michalovce Hospital (2017), also designed for Penta. With this project, DHA delivers a next-generation facility tailored to the needs of patients and professionals alike.
