Interior design projects in Stockholm
From an old bank palace to a modern coworking office in one of Stockholm's most central locations.
Sergelhusen was built in the early 1960s as the central office of the Scandinavian Bank. A bank palace with marble and exclusive wood interiors, adorned with art and equipped with cutting-edge technological solutions.
The mission
When it opened, it was the bank branch of the future. Large and modern with the best location in the center and all possible services in one place. For a while there was even a drive-in bank in the garage. Half a century later, the office was both outdated and too big. When SEB moved out in 2017, Vasakronan saw the opportunity to adapt the premises for new times and needs. They decided to refine the offer to their tenants by converting parts of the old bank building into coworking offices. A centrally located coworking office is attractive to a wide range of customers: as part of the package for companies with premises outside the city. Or a nice drop-in office for companies that want to invest in the well-being of their staff. And as a good solution for fast-growing companies and companies with temporary needs for more space. They chose Kanozi Arkitekter as a strategic partner to develop the brand-building interior design concept for Arena Sergel.
The concept
Together with Vasakronan, we developed the idea of an office with a feeling and atmosphere that would be more like a modern hotel than a regular workplace. We wanted to create an environment where people would thrive, feel inspired, and dare to be themselves and take the plunge a little more. The premises were outdated both in terms of size and function, but they had many built-in values that were both important to take advantage of and that could contribute to what we wanted to achieve.
Old furniture gets a new lease of life
Arena Sergel's interior design is a mix of old and new, exclusive and everyday. By working with reuse, we have been able to utilize many of the building's original qualities. Like the beautiful floors, pillars and walls in marble and the eight-meter long bronze gate that used to be in the entrance to Sergels Torg. There, in the original interior, we have found the basic tone for Arena Sergel. Everything new we have added has been carefully selected to complement and interact with what was in the building from the beginning.
Warm, welcoming and functional
The coworking spaces are spread over three floors. Large, open areas are mixed with small, intimate spaces for working in privacy and relaxation. There are lounges, event spaces and flexible workplaces in different environments, as well as offices, small meeting rooms and large conference rooms. The office is large and flexible and the interior design is intended to meet a variety of needs. At Arena Sergel, everyone should be able to find the peace, inspiration and energy needed to do a good job.
