The City of Donnacona aimed to provide an attractive facility to encourage physical activity and promote healthy lifestyle habits for all its citizens. Annexed to the existing arena, this new aquatic center now allows young families to be active while having fun, offers seniors access to a training pool, and provides a wide variety of activities for sports enthusiasts.
The concept was developed around two distinct volumes: the reception volume at the front façade is aligned with the arena, matching its scale and clad in white to echo its neighbor. The CLT structure of this volume extends outward as a long canopy, with dynamic volumetry highlighting the main entrance. Printed glass with a gradient pattern contrasts with the wood cladding and soffit of this façade. The hall leading to the locker rooms also showcases the exposed timber structure, bringing warmth and conviviality, while the entrances to the different locker rooms are marked by playful uses of color and graphic design.
The second volume, located in the background, mainly houses the four-lane pool and a recreational pool for younger users. Its darker treatment is punctuated with generous openings placed strategically to create a pleasant and suitable atmosphere for the facility.
