A new development in the expanding Kartal district on the Asian side of Istanbul, AND Pastel will open up a district that has a history of light industrial and manufacturing uses that are moving away to the urban periphery allowing housing to reinvent the vacated sites, thereby, transforming the precinct. The AND site is fortunately located atop a high point that slopes down towards the water and the Sea of Marmara. Sitting astride this advantageous pinnacle, apartments on the upper levels will have sea views. Additionally, the site is surrounded by civic parkland that imparts a strong landscape context for the design.
A fluid, organic and picturesque landscape engulfs the whole property and directly relates to the
adjacent parkland to promote a cohesive outdoor experience.
A parklike landscape forms the fabric that underlies and flows throughout the design into which the courtyard spaces are embedded. A major feature is a water element that flows through the entire site connecting the three courtyard spaces, defining and integrating them like a ribbon tying the entire site design together. This water element repeats in each C-shaped apartment block: starting at a highpoint and flowing down towards the main entrances of each court. The flow of water is gradated going from playful and highly active in the central high point then growing calmer as the water reaches the courtyard garden edges.
