It is a new nursery school that is located along a road with green for pedestrian in quiet residential area in the city.
In the residential area in the city, it is difficult that residents in the neighborhood understand a nursery school. Although many examples progress only by stopping development and closing the nursery school in the area, we believe that a nursery school should be maintained by connecting to the area as an important place of raising children in the area. We also believe that it is important that the children are raised by being paid attention by people in the area.
Based on above facts, we challenged to be involved in the area actively in this project.
As for the garden that is constructed facing the road with green for pedestrian actively, it takes over the history of the area and is full of green by using the existing tall trees. A high fence is not set, and children can move their body as much as they like at a small hill made artificially, hut and swing that they love while people who pass by pay attention to them and talk each other.
In dining room, there is a space that they can use with the garden by opening the sash, which is opened by 100 percent. It is the space where people in the area communicate. In this space, not only the children have lunch and activity of the children is a scene of the area but also people in the area can use this space.
Regarding bench window that is set at each part facing the road with green for pedestrian, it looks like a picture frame in which scene of the area is cut off when they see from inside. In the meanwhile, it looks like the picture frame where people in the area can see the activity of the children when they see from outside. It is the place where the children and the residents who pass by in the area wave their hands each other, which enables their communication.
A library at each floor is a small and comfortable space where the children can read a book by taking time while seeing the garden, road with green for pedestrian and area. They love this space.
A trial that the nursery school is physically connected to the area in the residential area in the city is supported by the idea of people in this area that “the area raises the children”, and it enables communication with those in the area every day.
The children grow up by developing affection to the area and people while communicating with the area. The nursery school creates an area where the children are raised safely.
