Omar Gandhi Architects is a Canadian practice working globally, with a diverse portfolio that spans residential, hospitality, civic and cultural projects, as well as large-scale landscape interventions and innovative urban in‑fill. The firm’s work ranges from region-defining public projects to intimate interior and product design, demonstrating a rare fluency across scales. Founded in Halifax in 2010 and formally registered in 2012, the firm expanded to Toronto in 2016 and opened its Berlin studio in 2025, extending its reach into Europe while continuing to lead projects across Canada, the US, and the Caribbean.
Raised in Brampton, Ontario, Omar Gandhi studied architecture at the University of Toronto and Dalhousie University before working in Toronto and Halifax. This dual experience—urban and coastal—shaped the studio’s distinctive approach: combining regional sensitivity, material craft, and design innovation.
In 2025, the firm named Stephanie Hosein and Jordan Rice as partners, marking a new chapter in its evolution. Hosein, based in Toronto, has led major residential and hospitality projects such as Prime Seafood Palace, Lady Marmalade, and Pier 8, and is a founding member of BEAT (Building Equality in Architecture Toronto), championing mentorship and equity in the profession. Rice, based in Halifax, specializes in civic and cultural work, including the Peggy’s Cove Viewing Platform, Riverbend Public Library, and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia concept, as well as significant landscape interventions that reconnect communities to place.
The firm prides itself on being a changemaker, both internally and through its work. OG has implemented progressive parental leave policies, integrated accessibility and sustainability into every project, and used its platform to amplify underrepresented voices, positioning architecture as a catalyst for social and cultural impact.
OG has received the Canada Council’s Professional Prix de Rome, the Architectural League’s Emerging Voices Award, a Governor General’s Medal in Architecture, and numerous honors from the AZ Awards, Architizer A+ Awards, and the Architecture MasterPrize—earning over 25 international awards in 2024–2025. Its philosophy is documented in Adaptation, a monograph published by Arquine.
Through award-winning design, teaching—including Omar Gandhi’s tenure as Louis I. Kahn Visiting Assistant Professor at Yale—and a growing global presence, Omar Gandhi Architects continues to shape the future of architecture, landscape, and culture.
