Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI) is a global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative commercial and residential ceiling, wall and suspension system solutions. With over 3,700 employees and fiscal 2015 revenues from ceiling operations in excess of $1.2 billion, AWI operates from a global manufacturing network of 24 facilities, including 9 plants dedicated to its WAVE joint venture. At home, at work, in healthcare facilities, classrooms, stores, or restaurants, Armstrong World Industries offers interior solutions that help to enhance comfort, save time, improve building efficiency and overall performance, and create beautiful spaces. For more than 150 years, we have built our business on trust and integrity. It set us apart then, and it sets us apart now, along with our ability to collaborate with and innovate for the people we’re here to serve – our customers, our shareholders, our communities and our employees. Through the years, our penchant for collaboration and innovation has led us to develop ceiling solutions that work harder than many people realize. It’s easy to see how our ceilings finish a room beautifully, adding drama, character and dynamism to any space. But did you know our ceilings have acoustical properties and that means they can help control sound and noise within a room and room to room? They can, and the implications are life-changing. In schools, for example, our acoustical ceilings can help teachers teach and kids learn. Statistics show many children only hear three out of every four words a teacher says – because of ambient noise. In rooms with our acoustical ceilings, children can hear better, so they learn better and faster. In hospitals with our acoustical ceilings, a quieter environment helps patients heal faster. And these are just a few things our ceilings can do. We have ceiling solutions that address fire and seismic concerns as well. We are committed to developing new and sustainable ceiling solutions, with design and performance possibilities that empower our customers to create beautiful, high-performance residential and commercial buildings. It’s an exciting, rewarding business to be in, and we’re committed to continuing to grow and prosper for the benefit of all of our stakeholders.

When George Brown founded the General Roofing Manufacturing Company in 1904, he could not have imagined the explosive growth this country would experience. The company’s name was changed in 1917 to Certain-Teed from its slogan “Quality made certain, Satisfaction Guaranteed.” The company continued to grow as the premier asphalt shingle manufacturer. In the 1960’s, the company acquired both a fiberglass insulation business and PVC pipe businesses which led to the introduction of solid vinyl siding. The addition of both Gypsum and Ceilings in 2007 rounded out the scope of building materials currently manufactured by CertainTeed.
