2014 Student Winner: Skylofts by Evelyn Choy and Evelyn Hartojo, University of Melbourne

Each year, the group incubates ideas that elevate the guest experience through radical design; in recent years, pop-up hotels, bridge hotels and other innovative concepts caught the attention of the jury. “We love the element of surprise but we do like concepts that solve real-world problems,” says Hardy. “The more real it is, the more feasible. Yet, we’re really looking for the next big industry shift. We want you to author that nagging concept that’s been in the back of your head. The one that you know would be great but the world may not be ready for it yet. We are.”

Green Air Hotel by Studio Twist China: 2014 grand prize winner. This concept brings greenhouse gardens into the hotel space, in a move to combat air pollution concerns in China.

This year’s top three finalists will be invited to present the their ideas in front of a panel of judges and investors on September 30 at the New Museum in New York. The grand prize winner has the chance to be mentored by leaders in hospitality and hotel design.

All entries will be judged based on concept, design, creativity, and potential impact on the industry. Both students and professionals are encouraged to enter by the April 15th deadline.
