As anyone who has watched the latest teaser for “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” will know, the power of a great movie trailer to raise anticipation for a future blockbuster is incredibly strong, and 50 million views on YouTube shows exactly how popular such previews are in our digital age. Indeed, it’s been a week when epic trailers have taken center stage across the internet, showing how a clever combination of cinematic sound bites and social media can capture the collective imagination.

As the hype around J.J. Abrams’ picture reaches stratospheric levels, we take the opportunity to look back at Architizer’s very own movie magic. This 40-second film gave a tantalizing glimpse of our potential to change how the public perceives amazing architecture, forming a digital launch pad for the largest and most exciting awards program the profession has seen to date. Check out the original A+Awards trailer below:

Since the movie’s premier three years ago, those great numbers have become even more remarkable: 200-plus jurors has grown to well over 300 for this year’s program, including cultural leaders across a broad spectrum of industries including media, technology, development, and business. Furthermore, the number of potential winners has more than doubled, with a plethora of new categories giving firms the chance for recognition by both the jury AND the public via a global online voting system.

With its opening teaser, the compelling case for a different kind of awards program was made. Now, as the “Oscars of Architecture” enters its fourth year, this week constitutes the perfect moment to get involved. The early entry deadline is this Friday, the 30th of October, and all the information you need to enter can be found on the dedicated A+Awards web page. It’s time to roll out the red carpet, don your evening best, and throw great design into the spotlight!
