Z9 Resort, which was honored with the IDA 2018 Winner Prize in the "hospitality" category by BCI Asia, is a floating resort situated on Srinakarin Dam in Kanchanaburi. Renowned for its meticulous use of materials and its eco-conscious design, the resort offers both private on-land accommodations and cozy raft accommodations. Each structure incorporates natural ventilation, with shapes and colors thoughtfully integrated to harmonize with the surrounding mountain and lake vistas. The resort's proportions are carefully tailored to complement the environment, with lines that echo the natural contours of the lakeside setting. The lobby, designed according to lunar orientation, allows guests to savor breathtaking sunrise and sunset panoramas.
The owners of Z9 believe that one of the most gratifying ways to appreciate the natural environment is to unwind within a resort that embraces sustainable design principles. Therefore, sustainable design strategies, based on the "3R" concept of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, have been implemented throughout the project.
Firstly, in terms of Reuse, existing wood from the former resort was repurposed as decorative elements, while OSB Board, derived from compressed wood flakes, was utilized for the ceiling.
Secondly, to Reduce environmental impact, minimal site contour adjustments were made, and a lightweight steel structure was employed for construction, offering eco-friendly benefits such as reduced ground disturbance, adaptability to existing footings, and expedited, cleaner construction compared to concrete.
Thirdly, Recycle measures were implemented by repurposing large pieces of existing wood for indoor furniture and by employing a closed-circuit water treatment system to ensure water quality before discharge into the lake, enabling guests to enjoy water activities without concern.
In essence, guests at Z9 Resort can immerse themselves in privacy, tranquility, and the natural beauty of Kanchanaburi, one of Thailand's premier destinations for hillside and lakeside scenery, throughout their stay.
