The project is located at the village with a thousand-year-old town. Driving from the downtown Beijing to the location of the project, the layered rocks exposed on the mountains can be seen after crossing over the Great Wall. These rocks have been formed by geological conformation movement from Jurassic to Cretaceous period at Yanshan mountain. The design is inspired by the staggered shape of local rocks to create an interaction between the building form and local environment.
By virtue of de-decorative design language, sunlight is designed to bring into the interior space realized by large lines and transition of blocks, allowing sunlight flow in the different space at different time.
In this sense, the shape of local rocks can be taken as not only an architectural appearance, but also a function. The transition of building block is appropriately designed to present a rich dynamic nature between the building form and interior space. The natural light shines into the interior space of different blocks, forming a sense of hierarchy between building and space. at sunset and sunrise, the space changes with the change of light to present a poetic interior atmosphere.
There is an old tree on the original house site, but it has to be cut due to daylighting. In order to keep the memory of the tree alive, partnered with local craftsman, indoor handrail and outdoor stools are made from the tree. It is designed to integrate modern design language, natural materials, local techniques with the habit of users.
