The project is located in Lixia District, Jinan City, Shandong Province, within the eastern core area, offering convenient transportation. The master plan is centered around the themes of "seclusion" and "tranquility." Secluded on an elevated platform, it provides a peaceful retreat amidst bustling surroundings—lively on the outside, serene within, striking a balance between motion and stillness. The design skillfully utilizes the natural features of the site, with its significant elevation difference from low in the north to high in the south. This topographical advantage brings boundless creative possibilities and opportunities to construct a layered visual experience.
The architecture emphasizes the concept of organic integration, focusing on creating transitional "gray spaces" within a modest structure. This approach breaks away from the traditional “inside or outside” mindset, enhancing the building's inclusivity and richness. It also offers people a variety of perspectives for exploring the space, adding more layers of interest when interacting with the architecture.
The designer envisions a layout concept of "integrated whole, interconnected parts." The main structure is set back 15 meters, creating a drop-off area at the entrance, with corridors linking various functional modules and spaces. The design features gardens within gardens, allowing for emotional transitions through five distinct scenes, encouraging a journey of diverse views. This approach creates a modern Eastern garden that embodies an air of subtle luxury. With a nearly 6-meter elevation difference from north to south, the project employs a three-dimensional landscape that transforms the terrain.
The linear panel facade reflects the textures of rock layers found in nature, while the sculptures and greenery in the foreground resemble abstract elements drawn from the city’s stone forest, adding a sense of tranquility and natural ambiance, akin to a "rocky mountain forest." The building embodies a growth process from bottom to top, incorporating the natural textures and elements of landscape walls in a horizontal manner, creating a seamless integration with the environment.
The design concept for this project is inspired by "natural growth." Grilles made of timber use triangles—common in nature—as the base pattern, arranged and sequenced to create a collection of landscape fragments, stimulating movement within the space. After exploring various options, the current scheme was chosen because light can narrate the story of time and space, forming layered transitional spaces that blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, enhancing openness. Through openings, grilles, and other design elements, a balance is achieved between preserving cohesion and offering views to the outside.
The use of wood artfully integrates natural elements into the modern architecture, bringing a warm and comfortable visual experience. The dark gray metallic paint coating not only enhances the building's overall texture but also reveals a sophisticated and understated beauty as light and shadow interact across its surfaces.
