Yoma is a leisure space featured by hot springs and spa services. In the busy city life, it offers an experience different than daily life, a new option for people if they want to spend their holidays in the suburbs or within the city. That’s why we have chosen the location and expressed the concept. LSD has undertaken the interior design of this project, the first pro flagship store in China.
Located in the downtown area of Guangzhou, it takes up Floor 2 and 3 of a commercial building, covering an area of almost 20,000 square meters. Around the project, there are all kinds of business formats attracting many visitors. Since the project aims at providing non-routine experience, the first thing to do is to isolate the surrounding environment. The design has come up with a special route leading to the entrance through the parking lot to the elevator at the first and second floor. In this way, the site has been re-defined. Completely different from the hustling and bustling surroundings, there is tranquillity and peace inside, as if it is another independent little universe.
People can only notice the elapse of time when something external reminds them of it. But in this project designed by LSD, in essence, we hope whoever in such space can forget about the time. The designers hope to make this place a “paradise” where people can have so much fun and relaxation that they lose track of time.
Specifically, at the entrance, the wooden materials are used to provide an immersive space. The gaps are decorated with light strips, which are the only light source here. As a matter of fact, the natural light is rarely used in this whole project, so that people can stay away from any external indicators of time.
This paradise-like space is designed to drag you away from daily trifles, plus, it comes with abundant functions and provides a wide array of experiences. Bearing the brand concept in mind, LSD perceives the Yoma space as a small town. In a town, there will be stations, streets, houses, squares, and parks, and people can have all kinds of adventures as their heart guide them.
In terms of the floor layout, LSD separates the spaces according to different behaviours and functions. The “external” space is continuous but circuitous (like the street, the square, the park), for example, the restaurant, the passageway, the book reading area, and other public spaces; while the “internal” space is independent and tranquil (like the houses), for example, the VIP rooms, Spa room, the locker room, etc.
With the design by LSD, the consumers can walk freely inside the place, to have a joyful experience completely different from routine life. It’s like “going on a holiday”, getting away from the daily trivial things and relaxing both body and mind in this “paradise” hidden in the city.
