Conceived as an introspective retreat within the dynamics of urban life, this contemplative space was designed and executed for Casas Project, a design exhibition held in Guayaquil, Ecuador, exploring the relationship between materiality, atmosphere, and stillness. The proposal seeks to suspend the rhythm of everyday life, immersing visitors in a sensory experience where silence, light, and natural elements become the protagonists.
The space is organized around a central reflecting pool, conceived as a symbolic element of calm and reflection. Above it, a large circular luminaire emits a soft, enveloping glow, while suspended roots descend from the void overhead, evoking an ancestral connection between earth, water, and time. The composition creates an immersive, almost ritualistic atmosphere, inviting visitors to pause, observe, and inhabit the present moment.
Materiality reinforces this contemplative narrative. Earth-toned finishes and mineral textures envelop the enclosure, contrasting with the organic presence of tropical vegetation carefully integrated along the perimeter. The dark sand flooring and fragmented stone pathway suggest a slow, intuitive journey—almost meditative—where every step becomes part of the spatial experience.
Warm, strategically directed lighting highlights textures, shadows, and spatial depth, generating a deliberate balance between darkness and glow. More than an exhibition piece, the project is envisioned as an emotional experience: a place to contemplate, breathe, and reconnect, demonstrating how design can become a vehicle for introspection and well-being.
