A masterplan and design for an extension to the village of Rhostyllen near Wrexham, North Wales, on National Trust land on the edge of the Erdigg estate. The proposal is based on a perimeter urban block structure where there is a close relationship between buildings and the street to define frontages, public and private space. There are a total of 223 dwellings in 11 urban blocks, together with a main square, community green, children’s garden and play area. A community hall, village shop and tea room are proposed in the main square along with some live/work houses.
The project has been the subject of extensive consultation with the local community and the local authority. A developer partner, Countryside Properties, was appointed in March 2007 and full planning permission received in December 2008.
