Shopping Mall Interior Decor.
The project was developed in collaboration with Yulia Arutyunyan.
We were invited to the project when the main construction work was already completed. The shopping center seemed to have been built without an architect, solely by builders. Our task was to fix whatever could still be corrected.
The main changes we introduced:
- poorly installed engineering structures under the ceiling were concealed with metal decor. The main elements are suspended horizontal platforms with cut-out patterns. The density of the pattern depended on the degree of disorder in the existing engineering structures. In the entrance areas and at intersections of visitor flows, we used large decorative elements resembling lampshades;
- continuing this idea, similar metal elements were placed vertically in the vestibules;
- the floor originally featured tiles from a previous era, oddly combining polished and unpolished fragments. A linear pattern of dark contrasting stripes was embedded into the finished flooring to draw attention away from imperfections;
- metal modular benches were also designed, but they were not implemented. However, the bench project found a home in another location.
The shopping center is called “Skala” (Rock). The decor incorporates rock-like textures and silhouettes of soaring birds, which inspired the internal project name—Wings.
