Whitchurch Rugby, Sport & Social Club had for years survived in a poor quality 1960’s building with leaking roofs and poor amenities, when the idea of redeveloping the whole site was considered. Our design solution incorporates 42 apartments and 8 townhouses on the site along with a brand new two storey clubhouse. Like the apartments, the clubhouse is curved to follow the natural shape of the site. The ground floor comprises the bar, kitchen, skittle alley and quiet room whilst the hall, snooker room and committee room are on the first floor above. The bar opens out onto a decking terrace which enjoys the westerly view towards Radyr in the distance. Fire escape is provided from the first floor level by means of steel spiral staircases in the rear corners. The club is finished in white render above a plinth of blue bricks and textured facing blockwork with dark grey windows, to coordinate with the apartments alongside. In contrast to its former life, the club now enjoys excellent new facilities and is attracting a far larger membership as a result.
