RLP was the local partner of Foster+Partners on this project, one of the three consultant teams selected by the HKSAR government to prepare a conceptual plan and master planning for the West Kowloon Cultural District – a world-class cultural district built on reclaimed land to include museums, theatres, concert halls, exhibition halls, performance venues, grade-A office buildings, public open areas, retail and residential developments; all with connectivity to the MTR’s Kowloon Station, Austin Station as well as the future Express Rail Link terminus.
The project necessitated intensive meetings with the government and interest groups over three separate public engagement exercises held over a period of two years. The concept design proposed a pedestrian-dedicated ground plane, a 23 ha. greenery park, an elevated APM, and a tree-lined waterfront promenade, providing a rich mix of uses within a flexible framework and having a highly-sustainable agenda.
