On the edge of the Waterfront Promenade, surrounded by infrastructure and an ever-changing landscape of performing and visual arts, the Spiral Mirror, our second place winning entry for the West Kowloon Arts Pavilion competition, is not only a space for art and events, but also an event unto itself – sculpture and experience, simultaneously of its context and apart from it. A mirror wraps a pristine white gallery. An architecture of opaque, translucent, and transparent surfaces reflects its context, controls heat and light, and offers interior views at night and expansive harbor views in the day. A Spiral Path takes visitors from the waterfront or the Art Park through a rich and varied set of experiences, from the outdoor Reflection Hall, through the Water Gallery, and culminating in the serene space of the Sky Gallery.
