The rebuild of West Bountiful Elementary has created the newest icon for this local community. In the earliest planning stages, a student engagement activity was held that asked each child to imagine what the world will be in 50 years and how the new school could fit within that future vision. Bringing all these ideas together, a design was developed that focused on student collaboration, comfort, and curiosity. The elementary school is a two-level, 65,000 SF next-generation
learning facility. Collaboration spaces called “Learning Habitats” allow a mix of learning activities. Learning studios open up to the shared collaboration areas with sliding doors helping to transform the environment. Future expandability is designed into the building as the east wing could have a second level added for additional growth. Highlights of the new school include an “Imaginarium,” a place for the students to express creativity in a combination art studio + makerspace. Colorful and vibrant, the custom designed interior graphics are playful and imaginative, a result of the earlier student focused activities in the design process. A landscaped courtyard functions as an outdoor learning classroom while multiple playgrounds see active use from the students throughout the day.
