THE NEW THEATRE BUILDING OF SZOMBATHELY
The connection with the Sports House is
partially function, partially cityscape. The similar functions are proving each
other. This way the tight collaboration is reasonable. Through the installation, because of the connection
of public spaces of the new building and that of the Sports House, we harmonized
the two buildings. Practically the transitional zone of the two buildings is
the foyer of the new building
Usually the installation of a new building
is not more than beautifully composed ground
plan lines perfectly slicking in surroundings. But it can be more, it
can be more exciting. Why can’t we interleave the altitudinal proportions of
the theatre with the surroundings? The result must be very unusual, a place,
where we can forget our problems for a while.
Around the new building there is a dynamic
line, like two cuddling arms. Now on the Square, now at the hight of the tree
crowns. Walkway, space delimitation, auditorium and lookout in the same time. A
line that is stiring. Ascending then sluing round, and, with a new e’lan it is
going round the building. Just like the writing of Weöres Sándor ( great
Hungarian poet, writer). Building. Poem. A frozen piece of poetry. Both
inviting to a cultural voyage.
Installation
We installed the new theatre building right
near the Sports House. They are abuting at one side. The public spaces and the economic zones can work
together. This way the functional connection can be solved simply without
creating an alley-way likem, opened space between the buildings. WE are still
continuing the space delimitation begun by the Sport House in direction of Március 15 Square. The pulled back building
contour lets the city space be more proportioned, more usable. A kind of foyer
to the new building.
Mass-forming
The building of the new theatre doesn’t
want to grow upper than the mass of the Sports House. We don’t want to be
tallers, but we don’t want to be shorters too. The building hight is the same.
Clear-out form, modern building. Made for the function, trying to slick in
surroundings. The strictly planned
inside is reflecting on the peaceful outside form. The ramp system woving the
two buildings is making exciting the functional mass. It is proportioned but
unified. Just the cube of the flies
elongates upon the building. A visible sign defining the place of the function.
materials
The putting into shape of the new theatre building
is essentially affecting the role of the materials. The big, transparent
facades are made of glass. The inner, closed cubes are made of photoconcrete
and wood-panelling. This way the border
of the outer and inner space is sluring. The photoconcrete is an ideal option
for coating the big inner surfaces. The limpness and cosiness of wood can solve
the coldness of clear-out materials. The surface of the ramp is wood.
The inner wall surfaces are getting by far
the greater part wood-panelling. Attendant art works or moments of theatre life
can appear on it. Picture closed in stone.
