The project was commissioned by Wanda Group to build a regional sports facilities centre which includes a Velodrome, football stadium and basketball arena. It has been integrated into a high density of residential area at a mountain terrain topography site. The Velodrome consists of a 250m long x 7m wide wooden cycle track to fulfill the requirement of UCI competitions. It has a multi-purpose arena in the track centre which provides other types of sports and concerts to serve the local communities during non-game mode. Permanent spectator stands with capacity of 3,000 seats and 3,000 temporary seats are to be provided according to different mode.
The inspiration of the concept was drawn from Chinese lanterns, an old handicrafts work. The Velodrome is cladded by perforated metal panels, which give an efficient energy performance. The form of a saddle was a response to the necessity of the cycling track. The skin changes colour according to the game.
During past-game period, the park is open to all citizens, thus providing a friendly local community. The idea of the planning is the combination of vitality and tranquillity. The site has a central plaza concourse, separating the vitality area of commercial retail complex beneath, surrounded with roller skating and extreme sports field, BMX sports field, and exhibition centre.
