The unique natural and mythical spectacle of the Vorarlberger Wäldle forms the basis of the design idea. Here the most dominant protagonists of the alpine natural landscape stand in a contrasting field of tension. Through stretching lush green valleys, indomitable river courses make their dynamic silhouettes, besides, extensive forest areas in manifold colors assert themselves against the gray stone of the rugged and steeply rising mountain formations.
The typical regional houses, with their uniform gable roof shapes and their shingled facades, sit like resting extras in the everyday scene and defy the ever unpredictable weather. And yet it is these tacit building forms, equally proud and stoic, that only complete the overall cultural picture of the Bregenzerwald and, above all, shape its poetic identity.
In this remote region, emphasis is placed on simple shapes and the use of natural materials as well as quality and durability to withstand the harsh climate. And it is precisely these climatic and traditional specifications that have led us to project the ubiquitous shingle facade into the interior of the 14-meter double sauna. The 6000 rounded shingles used here were individually manufactured by local craftsmen and fastened in the typical manner.
The west-facing, spacious glass facade and the interior form a protected and warm comfort area. The nuanced interior, which seems to reflect the wide and rich landscape, offers the visitor the opportunity to slip into the role of a humble viewer and become part of this overwhelming panorama.
