The Vodafone outlet in Valletta is a small retail space. It links to Republic Street through a narrow corridor – an umbilical cord that draws people in from the main flow and circulation of passers-by on Republic Street.
If we are not plugged in to the infrastructure we become distant. On Republic Street we have a never ending flow of people that will be the life blood of the retail outlet being designed. A strong link was therefore designed to attract and envelope the user, transporting him to the retail outlet. Just like an umbilical cord transfers blood from the main blood stream in a mother to the child, the entrance is being given this transitory but important role.
The entrance is also lit up by means of linear perspective forming lighting. This also takes the user into a ‘warp drive’ along the corridor to get to the retail outlet sooner.
The umbilical cord links tot he vertical circulation catered for by the lift. It leads to the storage areas, and services centralization room on first floor and the staff room/toilets and press room on the second floor.
