At the same time, it allows for an efficient internal organization of functions while establishing a clear, memorable identity.
The exterior is defined by a silver-toned metallic envelope, reflecting ideas of innovation, precision, and technological progress. A distinctive architectural gesture is the partially open southern segment of the ellipse, formed by a sculptural wooden colonnade. This element not only maintains the integrity and monumentality of the overall volume but also creates a semi-public, sheltered space that acts as a clearly legible entrance and attraction zone, particularly important in a high-speed visual context. At night, the colonnade transforms into a dynamic light installation, enhancing the visibility of the complex and redefining the surrounding infrastructure landscape.
The interior continues the architectural narrative through a consistent material and spatial language. A three-storey atrium forms the central axis of public life within the building, accommodating a technology museum, educational spaces, a restaurant, and informal work and leisure areas. Suspended bridges and a sculptural central staircase activate vertical movement and encourage interaction, transforming circulation into a social experience. Special attention was given to acoustic quality within this large, multifunctional space, resulting in the development of a unique acoustic wall composed of stainless steel tubes. This element simultaneously absorbs sound, reflects light, and acts as a luminous feature visible from the exterior. Industrial materials such as anodized aluminium, glass, and metal finishes reinforce the identity of a contemporary innovation hub.
The project integrates into its environment not through imitation, but through clarity and contrast. Located along Lithuania’s main transportation artery and adjacent to the airport, the building responds to large-scale infrastructural conditions—visibility, speed, and orientation—while simultaneously creating human-centered spaces. The elliptical geometry ensures dynamic perception from moving viewpoints, while the semi-open colonnade and surrounding outdoor areas introduce a more intimate scale, enabling social, educational, and recreational activities. The complex thus mediates between infrastructure and human experience, acting as both a visual marker and a functional destination.
Innovation and sustainability are embedded in both design and performance. The building maximizes natural daylight through its central atrium and large openings, while solar control solutions ensure thermal comfort. Acoustic performance is carefully engineered, and the use of natural clay-based interior finishes improves indoor air quality and regulates humidity, contributing to a healthier microclimate. Durable, recyclable materials were selected to ensure longevity and reduce maintenance needs, while efficient engineering systems support responsible resource use.
At its core, the project is human-centered. It provides contemporary workplaces, comfortable rest areas, educational infrastructure, and publicly accessible functions, transforming a production facility into an open social–industrial–educational platform. The VMG Technics complex can thus be understood as an integrated architectural system in which urban strategy, form, technology, and human experience are inseparable—a bold, future-oriented landmark that is both functional and symbolic, open to society and reflective of innovation.
