"I WANT TO MAKE POSSIBLE SOMETHING IMPOSSIBLE" Said the client for this assignment. His intention was to construct his house in one of the mountains of the peripheral zone of Medellín, that has an extensive green area surrounded by natural landscape. The process however was going to be complex, it had a difficulty access and a rugged topography.
To fulfill his wishes, we aspired to create a home that let him live an experience with the landscape, was comfortable and had no impact in the environment.
The house was meticulously prefabricated in a workshop and sent in parts by truck to be assembled in the place, achieving a low impact on the land, a low carbon footprint and a cleaner construction that commune with the surrounding landscape.
The morphological characteristics of the field such as native species and the natural shape were not modified due to the elevation of volumes where the project stands. The volumetry consist of three identical modules of 3,90 X 10 meters composed of 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, living room with integrated kitchen, home office and services. The central module serves as unifying element and was thought to be a lookout point to the city.
The side naves encompass the private areas such as bedrooms and services, proposing a more intimate stay. Also, the proportion and location of the volumes was carefully thought, seeking a balance of the spaces and creating specific looks of the surrounding vegetation and the view.
With this in mind, we created a shelter that allows the user to be comfortable in the interior space while enjoying and experiencing the landscape. For that, different wood textures and tones predominates. Tongue and groove pine in ceiling, OSB and MDP in interior walls, wood laminate floor, big glass openings and wood-like fiber cement in the exterior. Our design seeks to create a balanced habitat, that is respectful of the existing and flexible with future proposals in case of wanting to be relocated or expanded. The clean and delicate occupation of the space through design and materials, is part of an integral ecological dimension.
