Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv is surrounded by large natural pine forests. This makes the suburbs of Kyiv an ideal place for building private houses that have a symbiotic relationship with nature.
Villa Escape is situated on a picturesque natural site in a village south of Kyiv, within a short drive away from the capital city. As the name suggests, our main goal was to prevent visual contact with the surrounding sometimes unsightly eclectic village houses, and create a natural retreat setting for its inhabitants.
By solving the master plan, we managed to ensure the openness of the mansion’s interior space to the hill slope with a picturesque green meadow to the east of the site. The building is situated as close to the hill as possible, therefore it is visually removed from the village landscape. The mansion has a flat roof, which offers a panorama of the forest; it also invites the beauty of nature and the eastern sun into its interior through extensive glazing. All facades and terraces are clad in thermally modified wood, which reflects the natural setting and emphasizes the overall composition of the house. The interior of the mansion is also inspired by the surrounding pine forest, drawing on its colors and textures as a source of inspiration.
