Between Stone and Sky
“A clubhouse for thirty acres of farmland on the outskirts of Coimbatore, by K Square Architects.”
There is a particular kind of land on the edges of Coimbatore - scrubby hills the colour of rust and ochre, thorn trees that thin out in summer and flush gold and green after rain, the horizon never quite flat. It is not postcard countryside. It is working land, real land.
When K Square Architects were asked to design a clubhouse for a thirty-acre farmland plotted development here, the brief was less about taming this landscape than about giving it a roof to gather under.
The result is a building that behaves more like a piece of terrain than a piece of architecture.
