Valais represents one of the largest residential villa developments in Hong Kong. Located close to the border with China at Sheung Shui in a rural area of natural beauty, Valais was built to cater to a mixed market of purchasers, ranging from second home buyers from Hong Kong looking to for a less formal summer retreat, to buyers from mainland China and those that travel frequently across the Hong Kong-China border for work.
Situated on a 158,000 sq. m. site bordering Bea’s River to the south, the challenge lay in creating a high-quality environment encompassing 330 villas of 16 types in a phased development that would operate seamlessly in consecutive phases while also maintaining harmony with the natural environment. The development’s phasing and marketing plan focused around creating a central clubhouse for Valais, with an associated sales village area designed to include most villa types within a small radius.
The resulting phasing saw Site One including smaller houses from 150 sq. m., with Site Two including larger houses up to king-sized double villas in excess of 500 sq. m. This led to the creation of two clubhouses – both were designed around a sunken courtyard garden space, with a series of framed views looking inward and outward to green spaces, and servicing their local “village” sites with food and beverage and sports and leisure facilities. The clubhouse for Site Two, is more generous, at 2,800 sq. m. and including double-height lounge spaces, vertical green walls and a 50-metre outdoor pool.
